Hearing the word “trend” can immediately make one balk and high-tail it in the opposite direction as it has become associated with a negative connotation when it comes to the elegant world of interior design. No one wants a “trendy” home that will be all the rage for a few short years, hitting a fast-approaching demise.

Among the hundreds of trends we see each year, there are certain hidden gems we find sparkling among the rest. These are made up of elements that we see as designers shaping the cornerstones of unique, timeless, and luxurious design. Design that will never be limited to its decade.

The team at JSF Design has pin-pointed some key takeaways from this season’s design markets:

1. Natural Hides – The natural world will always be your best source and inspiration when it comes to the design of your home. Natural colors, patterns, textures, and materials will never go out of style or be associated with a certain time frame. Natural hides are a perfect example of this. With their rich tones, natural flaws, and luxurious touch, hides are always sure to warm up any space, bringing with it a touch of the finer things in life.

2. Stone Pieces – Stone in its natural raw state is getting the appreciation it deserves. We often don’t think about a material as the focal point of our homes or spaces but slabs of beautiful marble or limestone bring a showstopping effect to any space, one that will always bring timeless opulence. Even when employing the same stone at various points in your home, you’ll never encounter identical veining or tonal nuances twice. Stone can also be used as accents throughout your design, bringing soft elegance and interest into a space.

4. Pops of Burl Wood – Introducing pops of burl wood into a space brings a harmonious blend of natural and timeless elegance. The naturally intricate patterns and rich, warm tones of burl wood create a unique and captivating aesthetic that seamlessly integrates with various design styles. The organic, irregular swirls and knots found in burl wood grains bring out the authentic flair of that particular piece. Whether incorporated through furniture, cabinetry, or decorative accents, burl wood infuses a room with an endearing charm that transcends trends, making it a classic choice for those who appreciate the fusion of nature’s beauty and timeless design.

5. Acrylic and Resin – For the most part, natural materials will be the most timeless aspects of any design but, like any, there are a few exceptions to the rule. One of these exceptions is the use of acrylic and resin pieces. These are materials that when used artfully and selectively, can add a touch of playfulness to a space and create eye-catching moments. The key is to layer and pair these moments with other timeless pieces like the ones mentioned above. Combining these with the help of a trained eye will result in a space that feels harmonious, blending the enduring elegance of natural materials with the contemporary allure of acrylics and resin.
