Interior doors are used constantly and seen from multiple rooms. In a luxury home, their height, weight, hardware and relationship to the wall contribute as much to quality as the finish itself.

Scale the door to the architecture

Tall ceilings may support full-height doors, but proportion and operation still matter. A larger leaf requires the right hinges, frame and clearances.

Choose the level of presence

A flush door can disappear into a wall; paneled wood can add warmth; glass can borrow light while preserving separation. The choice should explain the room, not repeat a house-wide default.

Coordinate hardware early

Lever, pull, pivot and pocket systems have different structural and clearance needs. Finish samples should be compared with plumbing, lighting and cabinetry hardware without requiring an exact match.

Detail the frame

Traditional casing, narrow reveals and concealed jambs each create a different character. Wall finish and base conditions need to be coordinated before framing and plaster.

Protect privacy and acoustics

Bedrooms, offices and powder rooms need more than a beautiful slab. Core, seals and undercuts affect sound and light. Pocket doors save space but require realistic acoustic expectations.

Precise openings and transitions support a quieter architectural language.

Consider the view when open

A door is part of the composition both closed and open. Swings should not block art, furniture or circulation, and hardware stops should be anticipated.

A well-designed door communicates quality through touch, movement and alignment. Contact JSF Design about interior architecture for your home.

Design Inspiration

The collaboration between Jeffrey Florentine of JSF Design and Antolini began with a shared conviction: natural stone should shape architecture, not simply finish it. Modern luxury kitchen featuring a central island with a sleek waterfall marble countertop, paired with two plush upholstered stools. A sculptural glass bubble chandelier with brass accents hangs above, serving as the room's dramatic focal point. Matte taupe cabinetry surrounds the space, including integrated appliances and open shelving stocked with glass bottles. A minimalist chrome faucet rises from the island, while the backsplash showcases warm, glossy taupe tiles under soft natural light. The overall palette is refined and earthy, with a balance of modern geometry and inviting textures.
